Superhero Hayley Atwell interviews Sanjay Lobo

We’re always going around shouting about how every one of our volunteers at OnHand is a hero (they are).

But little did we know we actually have a real-life superhero in our midst. Agent Carter to be exact. And Agent Carter’s mum, Alison!

Alison had been volunteering with OnHand pretty much since day one, back in 2018. She always made an appearance at our parties (along with little Howie 😍) and we had a blast.

Here they are at our 1000hrs party. That’s where we celebrated having reached 1000 hours of help in London, in case you were wondering. The one with the ears is Howie…

…And there’s Howie being coo-ed over at our 1st birthday party…

Alison “found it to be such a straightforward and easy system to follow, it inspired [her daughter, Hayley], to get involved.” She signed up just as the COVID-19 lockdown began.

Throughout the months of April, May and June 2020, Hayley helped with as many shop drops and medication pick-ups as possible. She even helped set up a Skype account for one of our shielding residents so they could stay in contact with their family during the pandemic.

Chief OnHander Sanjay sat down with Hayley (virtually) and they had a chat about her experience as an OnHand Hero to give people a better idea of what it means to volunteer with us. And they filmed it!

“I’ve found it to be such a straightforward way that I can give back to my local community”

“It’s an amazing support system from all angles to make sure these small tasks are getting done. They may be small but they’re so important.”

Hayley has starred in many a Hollywood Blockbuster and is best known for her performance as Agent Carter in several Marvel films and TV series. We really love that Alison inspired her daughter to join the care revolution by becoming an OnHand Hero. Clearly being someone that cares about the community and wants to go above and beyond for things they believe in is something that runs in the family! Great work team!
