Your first step for global impact

We’ve always been on a mission to make the world a better place through small acts of kindness. But, with the world facing a climate crisis, we need to do more.

With so many of us unsure how to help, we’re making it simple to make an impact and take action through planting trees.

Do good 0 Save the planet 0

How does it work?

We help plant tees for every single team member using onHand, every month. We plant in some of the highest impact regions, supporting global farming communities and vast swathes of wild-life.

We track everything, so you can watch your forest and impact grow via our dashboards.

We also work with our partners to help boost their sustainability actions through additional tree planting.

Why trees?

Trees are incredible!

They are the only machines that (naturally) filter harmful Co2 from the atmosphere and store the carbon in their wood and in the ground.

Today there are three trillion trees worldwide. By protecting them and bringing back another one trillion lost trees, we can help to keep the impact of the climate crisis below 2° Celsius.

Our planting location: Madagascar

As part of the Madagascar Reforestation Project this project provides training and financial support for the local community to plant dry deciduous trees and mangroves with the help of national, tribal, and local governments.

One of the main sites is the Antsanitia Mangrove Site, an estuary on the North coast of Madagascar. It’s home to a whole range of animals, including stingrays and barracuda fish, and is also a super essential fishing spot 🐟🐠🐡

Strategic reforestation helps get their mangrove estuaries as good as new, and we’re proud to be helping planet trees in this area  🙌

Our Planting Location: Mozambique

This project is helping to return Mozambique’s Maputo Bay to its original state, restoring some of the super essential mangrove forests to the country’s rivers and coastlines.

Mangrove forests help protect essential biodiversity, help protect coastal communities from flooding, improve fisheries
and remove carbon from the atmosphere

The projects are a great way to provide long-term employment and livelihood improvements to local communities, as well as address issues like women’s empowerment and poverty in the area. The work you do with us helps plant these essential trees, so give yourself a pat on the back for helping this change 💪

Our Planting Location: Nepal

Nepal is an example of a place where local communities feel the effects of climate change at a far greater level than developed urban areas, despite climate change often being more closely linked to urban area activity 🏢

This project is restoring forests in areas of critical importance to not only improve local livelihoods but also protect the region’s amazing biodiversity.

One of the areas that this  is focusing on is the city of Pokhara, with 300 hectares of planting sites in the city limits.

Our Planting Location: Haiti

In Haiti, our tree planting partner is working tirelessly to help restore tree cover across the island, whilst also preventing erosion and improving food security 🙏

Haiti is a dry, tropical country with very sparse tree cover, and centuries of logging and agriculture have had a huge impact. This programme serves over 180 smallholder farmer families and offers farmer training to help locals reforest their farm plots.

They plant trees like orange, moringa, mango, and cocoa 🍊🌿🥭to diversify food production and improve food security for local populations.

Our Planting Location: Honduras

Honduras is a naturally biodiverse nation with Central American montane forests, Central American pine-oak forests, northern mangroves, and Central American dry forests. But fires, pine beetle infestations, and palm oil production have led to the rapid degradation of the country’s diverse forests.

By committing to the reforestation of 12,000 hectares of land across 11 project sites, our tree-planting partner is generating economic opportunities for marginalized communities, helping restore the water supply, and creating a natural habitat for local wildlife 🌎

So far, over 190 people are employed and earning fair wages as part of this project – and over 4 million trees have been planted 💚

Our Planting Location: Kenya

In Kenya, our tree-planting partner is dedicated to restoring the Kijabe Forest and mangrove and coastal forest habitats in Lamu County.

Reforesting these areas doesn’t just help with reducing CO2 – it also creates a habitat for wildlife, sustainable economic opportunities for local families, a reliable water supply, and landslide protection. Right now, over 1,050 people are employed and earning fair wages through this project 🙌

By working with a local forest trust, the Kijabe Forest Trust, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, regional and national government institutions, and the surrounding agricultural and pastoral communities, the project is designed to help Kenya achieve its target of 10% forest cover 💪

Our Planting Location: Ethiopia

Working alongside the local community in Dawuro, our tree-planting partner will reforest an area of 10,000 hectares. Restoring forests across this land will decrease the impact of landslides, increase water resources, and provide opportunities for economic self-sufficiency 🌳

Practices like Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), seed balls, and seedling nurseries will help revitalise the area in a sustainable way. This work isn’t just necessary to restore Ethiopa’s environment, it’s essential for communities in the area, who rely on the land for food, water, and shelter.

Who do we work with?

We’re supporting amazing organisations to plant trees across the globe, like The Eden Reforestation Project - supporting mangrove reforestation and other projects to protect and increase important biodiversity in Mozambique, Madagascar, Nepal, Kenya, Ethiopia, Honduras and Haiti.

FAQs

  • Yes! If you want to buy additional trees to grow your company forest you can do that through your company’s dashboard or just drop us a line at hello@beonhand.co.uk

  • Trees are one of the most powerful tools against the climate crisis as they are the only natural way to absorb the CO2 that humans are producing at alarming rates, which warms the earth and is causing mass destruction to all forms of life.

The more trees the earth has, the more time we buy ourselves to solve the climate crisis.

  • You’ll be able to see how many trees you’ve planted in your company forest via your company’s very own OnHand dashboard! We keep you updated on how close you are to your next tree being planted so you can see how your local impact increases your impact globally.

  • We’re a social enterprise backed by government and social impact investors. Being a charity comes with many limitations. We wouldn’t be able to continue with our mission to change the world one good deed at a time solely on donations and grants from the government nor have the impact we aspire to. We partner with charities to bring more volunteers to them and will never ever charge them.

  • You can sign up as a solo volunteer and we’ll plant trees for you right away! You’ll get a number of trees planted on your behalf each month, depending on what subscription option you go for.
