30% of Softcat Employees Engage with Doing Good

1000+ Staff, 8 Locations. A Huge Vision for Social Good.

In our new spotlight, we look at how Softcat, a leading provider of IT solutions and services, utilised the onHand app to engage 30% of staff with impact initiatives in the first six months of setup.

Nationwide Impact.

Softcat already had an impressive record of doing good and being a top employer. Ranked as one of the top ten best places to work in the UK in 2021, active social responsibility is at the core of the organisation.

However, with 8 locations across the UK and a team of over 1000+, organising, engaging and recording employee impact proved to be tricky and time-consuming.

By partnering with onHand, Softcat has been able to onboard 30% of staff in the first six months and record 200+ hours of impact. Employees can pick missions that relate to the causes they care about the most and increase their own sense of purpose and wellbeing at the same time.

Driving Employee Engagement With Exec Level Involvement

The key to success with any wellbeing programme is undoubtedly getting the top dogs involved at an early stage. In Softcat’s case, the top dog - CEO, Graeme Watt took a hands-on approach to being one of the first to volunteer and share his experience with the team.

Named #3 in Glassdoor’s Top CEO’s 2021 report and coming in closely behind the CEO’s of global giants BlackRock and Mircosoft, Graeme certainly has the backing of his team!

Why Doing Good is Good for Business.

An active interest in wellbeing is more than just a nice to have. As a Best Place to Work Winner, Softcat understands the importance of looking after their team.

Wellbeing is the foundation of high performance. If employees are feeling mentally unwell, burnt-out or stressed then they will not be performing at the best of their abilities for the business. If teams thrive personally, then they will professionally.

Don’t just take our word for it, take a listen to Rhys Lawson, Head of Workspace and Service Sales at Softcat, on the challenges of implementing programmes internally and the benefits of employee volunteering with onHand.

Developing Employee Purpose.

Social connection and building shared experiences have undoubtedly been difficult over the past few years. Mirco-volunteering and completing missions in under an hour has meant the Softcat teams have been able to build ongoing relationships with the people they help. From inspiring our younger generations with Youth Mentoring, and building eco-hotels for bees, to long-lasting intergenerational friendships, here are a few of Softcat’s stories so far…
